A Vested Interest

V-neck: Urban Outfitters, Vest: H&M, Chambray Jacket: J.crew, Pants: J.crew, Shoes: 14th & Union via Nordstrom Rack, Bag: Longchamp

I don't know why I look so mad in some of these pictures!  I promise I wasn't.  I think I was just contemplating.  Anyway, today's outfit contains a lot of menswear-inspired pieces: a vest, boyfriend-fitted slacks, a chambray jacket, and charcoal wool slippers (these were once called "smoking slippers").  Can you tell I'm a little obsessed with mixing in menswear into my wardrobe?  Anyway, I love that the weather has cooled down enough that I can start layering more.  I did not fail to do so today!

I decided to mix it up here with a statement necklace I purchased on eBay.
I bought my red Longchamp bag in Paris when I served there as a missionary for my church.  I remember all the women had them.  Not sure if they still carry them, but it's a classic bag.  My outfit colors were pretty subdued so I thought I'd add in some color that went appropriately with everything.

**Also, I don't know if everyone keeps up with the news, but please keep the victims (and their families) of the attacks in Libya in your thoughts and prayers.  We live in a crazy world.  9/11 reminds me of that every year.

Casual On The Fly

Top: J.crew, Jeans: Madewell, Shoes: Dockers, Bag: Michael Kors, Necklace: Frock You, Belt: H&M

I seriously slacked last week on the blog posting.  I apologize!  I started school and just felt like I had a million things to do and little time to do everything.  Anyway, now that I'm getting back into a schedule, I should be more frequent in my posts.  Well, today's outfit is exactly what it says it is--casual.  I decided I wanted to wear my boat shoes and also wanted to work in my light gold metallic tunic shirt from J.crew somehow.  I threw on my vintage beaded necklace and my sage colored belt from H&M.  I grabbed my cognac leather Michael Kors bag for kicks and sheer laziness (all my things were already in there).

Well, thanks for reading!  I hope you're all doing well and please know that I will try to post more this week!

Lady-Like Orange And The Giveaway Winner Announcement!

Read until end to find out who won our JunieBlake Giveaway prizes!!

Dress: Boden, Jacket: J.crew, Heels: Tahari, Belt: H&M, Earrings: Nordstrom Rack

Today is Sunday and every Sunday I go to church.  I teach the little kids so I'm extremely exhausted at the end of church, but I always look forward to coming home and relaxing.  I'm a complete slug on most Sunday evenings and I don't ever regret it!  I get to spend time with my husband and enjoy reading, watching a movie, talking to family far away, and of course blogging.
My outfit is what I wore to church today and the pictures were taken after so I look like a wreck, but that's ok.  It makes it more realistic!  I decided to wear my seriously neglected silk polka dot dress from Boden (it's kind of like a British J.crew), and my orange J.crew sweater jacket (also neglected) for an outfit somewhat reminiscent to a 1960s lady outfit.  I really wanted to do a mock beehive hairdo today, but lacked the motivation.  I'll do that another day!

Congratulations to Shelley Gajus and Emilee Ryser!  You have each won a $30 JunieBlake Giftcard!!! Please email me you at info@nauticalstripes.com with your contact information and JunieBlake will hook you up!

All That's Pleated Is Gold: Metallic and Chambray

**The JunieBlake Giveaway ends Tonight (Friday, 8/31/12) at midnight EST!  Be sure to enter; click on the link for details.

Skirt: J.crew, Top: J.crew, Shoes: Dollhouse via Ross, Bag: Michael Kors via TJMaxx, Necklace: Frock You

I need to give credit where credit is due.  My husband who is the master of the universe when it comes to puns, made up the title of my blog after I asked for some inspiration.  Maybe I should seek out his help more!  Anyway, Today is Friday and I am excited to go out with my dear husband for a little date night.  Today's outfit is me trying, yet again, to get away with a dressy piece, my J.crew metallic gold dot skirt.  I tried to do so by dressing it down with a button-up chambray top and pointed ballet flats.  I accessorized with a vintage three layer beaded necklace, a woven belt from New York and Co. and my cream leather Michael Kors bag.  I think I've mentioned this purse on here before, but yes, I got it for a stellar deal at TJMaxx awhile back.  I can't buy things like this full price anymore when I know I find it for half the price.

I love polka dots, gold, AND pleats.  What could possibly be better?

I hope you all have a great weekend and please be sure to enter into the JunieBlake Giveaway!!!  Yes, I'm screaming this at you!

Gray Skies and Gray Cardigans

**Remember, you have until FRIDAY to enter into the JunieBlake Giveaway!!!
Hurricane Isaac has brought a lot of rain to South Carolina these past couple of days and thus it feels more like October than it does August.  Can you tell I'm ready for cooler weather?  I really don't mind the weather and love being able to pull out my cardigans and finally wear my new boots that my husband insisted on buying for me because he knew how much I loved them!  He is quite kind :)

I thought I'd try to get away with wearing a cream lace dress I bought in Singapore with my long gray cardigan from United Colors of Benetton by pairing them with my charcoal herringbone tights from J.crew.  I wanted to make the lace more casual so the boots were my solution with my skinny leather belt from J.crew.  The boots were found in an adorable little boutique in the historic downtown Summerville and I have been waiting for opportunities to wear them!  My husband lovingly calls them my Katniss boots...yes, as in Hunger Games.

I decided to wear my chandelier earrings from Nordstrom Rack, which I bought back in 2005...crazy they have lasted me this long, but I love them and they go with a lot of my wardrobe.  The linen-cotton striped scarf is from J.crew and was purchased for a killer deal since I bought it at the end of spring.  The end of a season is always my favorite time at J.crew!

I think my favorite accessory of this whole outfit is my black elastic hair band on my wrist.  Haha, forgot to take that thing off.

I hope everyone in the southeast is okay and safe from Isaac.  I know that there will be many people who are affected by it.  I just pray beautiful New Orleans is spared.

Guest Post: Emily from Creamy

If you don't remember, I guest-blogged for Emily's Creamy and thought I'd return the favor and have Emily on Nautical Stripes today!  Emily is the mom of four boys and loves "all things fashion."  I'm pretty sure she is one of the sweetest and kindest fashion bloggers I have ever "met" and I think you'll love her momma-friendly, everyone-friendly style :)  I wish we lived closer so we could go shopping and have lunch together!
Hello Nautical Stripes readers!  I am Emily from the blog Creamy, and am so excited to be guest posting for Mindy today.  I like all of you LOVE her style and blog.

Today Mindy asked me to do a late summer, early fall look.  I have been loving all of the fall clothes that I have been seeing in stores, but I am not in any hurry to wish the warm weather away yet.
This transitional period from summer to autumn fashion is always a bit tricky for me.  So many days are warm and nice, but are definitely getting a bit cooler.  The warm weather will probably last here for the next few weeks, but I am still excited about fall colors and attracted to a more neural palette than that of spring and summer.  I especially am loving neutrals with spalshes of summer pastels.
For our family football season is in full swing and we are definitely looking forward to all of the fun things that autumn brings, but until then, I am going to enjoy ever last minute of the last few golden days of summer.

Thanks for having me today Mindy and I hope some of you will come and visit me over at Creamy!

Back to School in Mustard, Retro Stripes, and Menswear Loafers

**Remember you can still enter to win in the JunieBlake Giveaway!  Just follow, comment, and/or pin!

Some of my older followers know that I graduated from my grad school program earlier this year.  Well, what a lot of you may not know is that I just got into another master's program at Boston University this fall.  I'll be studying Computer Information Systems and am anxious yet thrilled to get started.  So, yes, I will be among the thousands of students returning to school this fall.  Although I won't be on campus much since my classes are distance classes, I thought I'd put together a back-to-school outfit anyway.

As much as I enjoy extremely feminine clothes and style, I also have this "I followed my brother around as a little girl" tomboy in me.  I love mixing menswear or tomboyish items with my more fitted items to avoid looking too bulky or stray too much from my usual style.  This outfit consists of my J.crew high-rise jeans in a dark wash, a retro striped boyfriend v-neck top from Target, a double-breasted mustard cardigan from TJMaxx, and a pair of Dolce Vita suede menswear-style loafers.  I accessorized with a cognac leather belt from Zara and a cognac leather Michael Kors bag.  I probably could have added some jewelry, but got kind of lazy.  I'm about comfort today!

I'm loving this rainy and cloudy weather we've been getting in South Carolina.  I can actually wear a sweater and jeans once in awhile :)

I hope you all are doing well and thank your for reading, my friends!!!  Thank you to all those who have started following me recently.  I really appreciate it :)

Where's the Picnic? Red Gingham and Aqua

**Remember to follow, pin, and comment to enter in the  JunieBlake Giveaway!
Please ignore the strange muscle that bulges over my knee!  It happens when I run frequently.  Not the most attractive thing...haha.

I'm not going to lie, I kind of think this shirt looks like a picnic table cloth and I LOVE it because of that.  Even better is that I bought this Ann Taylor button up at Goodwill for a few dollars.  I couldn't help but rejoice.  I normally dig through the more vintage-looking items whilst thrifting, but can't help when I score something like this.  I've also acquired a J.crew gingham shirts for a few dollars at another thrift store and was excited that I didn't have to fork over $88.  Also, I'm kind of growing out of the bubble necklace phase, but couldn't help but wear this one I scored on eBay.  I believe it's missing two bobbles.  Quality craftsmanship for sure!  Anyway, the necklace went with my J.crew aqua bermuda shorts (I bought them for under $20 at J.crew Factory during the 4th of July sale) so I couldn't help but wear it!  I'm not sure why I chose to be so matchy, matchy by the way.

I scored this red leather Kate Spade bag from Gilt.com for $90.  Yes, $90.  I love a good flash sale.  The leather platform sandals are from Me Too and were purchased at Marshall's for $30, well maybe $29.99--another bargain.

So, my house is freezing right now so I threw on an old J.crew cable spring/summer sweater and replaced the nautical rope belt with my thin J.crew leather belt.  I'm sure when I walk outside I'll rip it off!  All and all I hope you guys are able to remark from my blog that you can buy name brand and even designer brands for a lot less.  I am all about the bargain.  I think it makes shopping more entertaining.  As such, I am going to try to wheel out a series of building a classic, quality wardrobe for less.  Stay tuned :)

Well, be sure to check out the JunieBlake Giveaway details so you don't miss out on a great opportunity to win FREE STUFF.  Yes, stuff :)  Have a terrific weekend and be sure to enjoy the sun!
